The Project Steering Committee meets for a second time - September '12

The members of the Committee are staff members from the five beneficiaries of the project (Game and Fauna Service, BirdLife Cyprus, Environment Department, Department of Forests and Voroklini Community Council) as well as staff members from the Water Development Department (WDD). The participation of the WDD, competent authority for water management and for the implementation of the Water Framework Directive in Cyprus, is crucial since the lack of water management of the lake is one of the main issues that the LIFE Oroklini project will address through the implementation of specific actions.

During this second meeting, the members of the Committee gave an update on the progress of actions, giving both technical and financial information. They also discussed outstanding issues regarding the Inception report which is to be delivered to the European Commission by the end of September (2012), and discussed the development of next actions. After the meeting the members of the Committee also visited Oroklini Lake to see and discuss on the spot future conservation and dissemination actions such as the removal of invasive species, the fencing of the site and the erection of the three notice boards around the lake.
